In Maryland's Anne Arundel County, you'll find a shopping center known as Arundel Mills. Simon Property Group, which also runs the mall, owns 59.3 percent of the complex. It has a gross leasable area of 1,930,820 square feet, making it Maryland's largest shopping mall. The mall was built by The Mills Corporation and is named "Arundel" Mills because it is situated in the northwest corner of Anne Arundel County, at the crossroads of Maryland Route 100 and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway (Maryland Route 295).
Among the many retailers that call this shopping center home are Cinemark theaters, The Children's Place, Books-A-Million, Burlington, TJ Maxx, Sun & & Sports, Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse, Bass Pro Shops, Old Navy, MD Furniture, Bass Pro Shops, Ulta Beauty, Saks Fifth Avenue, Dave & Buster's, Yard House, Primark, and more.
First opening its doors in November of 2000, Arundel Mills now has over 225 tenants as of July 2007. This Medieval Times dinner theater is the first to open in an indoor shopping mall. Arundel Mills has 17 major anchor retailers, including Dave & Buster's, a 24-screen Egyptian-themed megaplex theater, and a Live! Casino & Hotel. Before its sale to Cinemark in March 2009, this theater was the lone location of the Muvico Theaters network in Around Glen Burnie MD.
The mall's interior is designed in the shape of a "racetrack" and, more obviously, a boat. Coca-Cola, Comcast, Discover Card, The Baltimore Sun, and Toyota had previously had sponsorships for five separate "neighborhoods" within the mall.
Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, Books-A-Million, Burlington Coat Factory, The Children's Place, Cinemark Egyptian 24 Theatres, Dave & Buster's, Forever 21, H&M, MD Furniture, Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament, OFF 5th Saks Fifth Avenue Outlet, Sun & Ski Sports, T.J. Maxx, and Ulta Beauty are just some of the anchor and department stores in the mall as of May 2022.
After voters in Maryland legalized slot machine gambling in 2008, The Cordish Company proposed building a slots parlor adjacent to the shopping center. Voters approved a vote to allow slot machines at Arundel Mills in November 2010. Work on the casino began soon after, and its first phase opened to the public in June 2012. Live! Casino & Hotel has been open since September 2012 and features 4750 slot machines across its 380,000 square feet of gaming space.
The Live! Casino & Hotel is a separate structure from the rest of Arundel Mills, which is divided by the mall's inner ring road. The casino is not attached to the mall in any way, however, it is conveniently located near the mall's food court. The parking garage at Arundel Mills, where the Live! Casino & Hotel is located, has 5,000 spaces, and uses a "smart park" system similar to the one at nearby BWI Airport to indicate the availability of parking spots. Visitors to Arundel Mills can park for free at the mall at any time.
There are a number of restaurants to choose from at Live! Casino & Hotel, including Bobby's Burger Palace, The Cheesecake Factory, and Prime Rib. However, in November 2011, Obrycki's Crab House and Seafood Restaurant revealed that they will not be opening a location at the new development. Instead, a Phillips Seafood storefront was built there. Rams Head, based in Annapolis, runs the live music venue of the Live! Casino & Hotel, which features cabaret-style seating for around 300 people across many tiers.
The Hall! at Live! opened to the public in 2019. There are public eateries, a spa, a salon, a gift store, and conference spaces available at the hotel. Every year, Live! hosts the commencement ceremony at Anne Arundel Community College. Check out The Walters Art Museum.
